"Bungee jumping and it's related activities fulfill almost everyone's desire to do something truly exciting without a risk of injury. When we developed our first bungee rides for mainstream amusement parks, we realized they created and captured such tremendous amounts of energy, even ancillary attractions enjoyed substantial increases in profits. Since 1988 my passion for this industry has never died...as people continue to find their greatest thrill at the end of a bungee cord." - Ricco Nel, Bungee Designs Owner/Director |
Bungee Designs evolved out of directors' Ricco and Nancy Nel's participation in the birth of Bungee Jumping in the United States. In 1988, after extensive experimentation and research, Ricco and others created a duo harness system with multiple backups and began bungee operations from remote bridges. During bungee's infancy Ricco also helped to form and became the first Vice President of the North American Bungee Association (NABA). The guidelines written by Ricco and other NABA members became standard operating procedures which were then adopted by many state OSHA departments.
Flourishing commercial operations in both Southern and Northern California encouraged Ricco to establish the first company, whose mission was to pursue larger amusement parks for tunkey guest participatory bungee rides.
As the world's thrillseekers continued to embrace the concept of bungee jumping, to design the world's foremost bungee structures for amusement parks. After winning awards for being the lead attration at several of the country's largest state fairs, the company finally convinced park skeptics to adopt bungee rides at two US amusement parks; Libertyland, TN, and the Santa Cruz Boardwalk.
By 1992, the tremendous success found at these sites dictated that Bungee Designs, LLC, be created to mass produce it's structures for amusement parks worldwide. Company president Ricco Nel enlisted a team of engineers, designers, safety consultants, and trainers who shared his committment to safety first, meticulous attention to detail and quality, and love of the bungee industry, to provide the Bungee Designs services.
Bungee Designs' first structure was erected in 1992 at the top of Squaw Valley, Lake Tahoe, CA's High Camp Ski & Spa Resort. Built to last, this structure has withstood four years of blizzards and winds exceeding 170 mph. The Squaw Valley site continues to operate for thousands of jumpers monthly.
Japan was the next market to embrace bungee related rides. Currently Bungee Designs has launched seven successful Tower 2000 and Ejection Seat 2000 rides at some of the largest amusement parks in Japan. Bungee Designs' ongoing support to these operations ensures that clients enjoy financial success with an injury-free safety record.
With a firm commitment to safety, training, and professionalism, Bungee Designs has grown to where it is now, with multiple sites operational worldwide. Bungee Designs provides complete services to clients - from site design & engineering, manufacturing and preparations, to staff training and merchandise consultation.
